Gaming Politics
Well, so in my last post I referenced Jack Thomson not being a human. Well, let me explain this. I am a minor, who likes GTA. The punchline is, I'm all for legislation on videogames. Now, before you call Dr. Phil, talking about my insanity, hear me out. But calling Montel is okay (actually it isn't). I think that videogames should have a content rating system like movies (cannot purchase M or AO games with out an adult, yada, yada, yada) now, you might say, now what about the ESRB? The system doesn't work. And as our resident Hitler, Doug Lownstein (lol) said, these issues will go away, like how each older generation resents the younger generation's medium. We have:
Movies
Music
Hippies
Drugs (this hasn't gone away yet)
Sex/STD's (that will never be resolved as long as we have animalian instincts)
Now the poor video game.
Not to say Jack Thomson is wrong, I'm just saying he's a media whore. Not to say that he should be disbarred for that, he just jumps on any negative press he can find, then he will exploit it, and I have to suffer for it. I also think that these burdens should not be but on the publishers or developers, but parents. They have to know what GTA stands for, and it's not Good Time Amish. My parents understand the ESRB (partially because I explained it to them), but they are fairly techologically advanced. I once read a study that says that 80% of adults DO NOT understand the ESRB, or even know that it exists. To end this, the Hot Coffee mod should not be given to Rockstar, the guy who modded it should have been sued. You have to go through hoops to get to it, and it violates Rocktar's TOS (plus, it even isn't that graphic). Also, when I said I liked GTA, I like the great story, voice acting, and freeform missions, not destroying Los Santos. I just think there should be legislation on people who exploit hte media, not on the ones who are being exploited.
